Art Galleries JANUARY brings the first of Milwaukee’s popular Gallery Night and Day events for 2005, planned for Jan. 21-22. Although the event features venues throughout downtown Milwaukee, Participating Historic Third ward locations include PICTURE PERFECT, 213 N. Broadway, 271-3712, featuring original artwork by Norway-born artist Elvira Leiten. Nearby, RUBIN'S CONTEMPORARY FURNITURE, 224 E. Chicago St., 278-8100, hosts an Italian Design Expo. Rubin’s celebrates a new collection of Italian furniture, lighting and design, offering exciting new styles and the chance to meet factory representatives. Hours during Gallery Night and Day are 5-9 p.m Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m.Saturday At EYE LEVEL FRAMING, 409 E. Buffalo St., advice includes answer to the questions “To re-frame or not to re-frame?” Eye Level promises hot chocolate during Gallery Night and Day to help visitors warm up. At ARTASIA, 159 N. Broadway, .220-4292, browse through an astounding collection of art, artifacts, jewelry, accents, furniture, antique and architectural curios from Tibet , China, Nepal and Mongolia. Leaving the Historic Third Ward and venturing to the Brady Street neighborhood on Galley Night, GRAVA GALLERY, 1224 E. Brady St., is a must-visit. “Homebody,” features Milwaukee artist Cindy Taylor's latest series of impressionistic paintings. These colorful still lives and interior scenes express the charm and character of the artist's Riverwest home and its inhabitants. The MILWAUKEE ART MUSEUM, 700 N. Art Museum Dr., presents "Art of the Ordinary," the first large-scale art installation presented in Windhover Hall. Wild Space Dance Company performs the piece on Jan. 22 and 23. Through Jan. 30, the museum’s featured exhibit is Masterpieces of American Art, 1770-1920, the only Midwest appearance of more than 90 masterpieces from the Detroit Institute of Arts. MAM hours during Gallery Night and Day are 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday (admission fee). Other galleries that are not part of Galley Night and Day, but well worth a stop, include the west side’s ART ‘N ODDITIES, 5833 W. Lincoln Ave. Stop here for unique artistic enhancements for every room of your home. The gallery is where the popular Bowzr sculptures were born and continue to be created, along with a new companion cat called Meowzr. Open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wed.-Fri., 10-4 Sat. In Historic Cedarburg, be sure to stop by three galleries in the Cedar Creek Settlement. BIERMA GALLERY on the second floor offers a wide selection of prints by regional and national artists and many other gift ideas. LEAP OF FAITH, also on the second floor, offers works of all kinds from around the world. JOHN RED’S LTD on the first floor is an American craft gallery with items seldom found in this area.
