Bowzrz & Meowzrz sculptures born in West AllisTAKING inspiration from her beloved Wheaten Terriers, Milwaukee artist Meri Berghauer created Bowzrz in a response to the need for fun, original sculpture. The Bowzrz serve as her three dimensional palette, with each of them unique.
Bowzrz currently come in four sizes: Standard Bowzrz measure 42” x 39” x 24”: Puppy Bowzrz measure 24” x 24” x 18”; Toy Bowzrz measure 12” x 6” x 8”; and Bowzr Miniatures measure 3” x 2” x 1 1/4. By popular demand, Berghauer created the Meowzrz line for cat-lovers. The newest edition to that group is a companion size to a puppy Bowzr. For the 2005 holiday season, the artist debuted a Christmas tree ornament in both Bowzrz and Meowzrz styles. This spring, a new pose for the standard-size Bowzr will captivate fans–sitting, with head tipped to one side and a paw raised to “shake hands.” Frequently, the sculptures are created as custom pieces for clients. They make ideal gifts, and the artist creates special designs around holidays (such as the upcoming Valentine’s Day). Berghauer has been part of the Milwaukee-area art scene for 30 years. She has a background in art education and experience that includes teaching, illustrating children’s books and creating wildlife fine art, and graphic design. Berghauer’s home base is Art ‘N Oddities gallery at 5833 W. Lincoln Ave. in West Allis. This is not your usual art gallery. Fun is emphasized here, with art and artists from around the country showcased. New shows and themes rotate regularly, and inventory changes constantly. Bowzr and Meowzrz also are available in the Milwaukee area at Picture Perfect Gallery, 320 E. Buffalo in the Historic Third Ward. Regular Art ‘N Oddities hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.
