Enjoy a tempting drink and dessert
Great spots take the edge off chilly February

WHILE ROMANCE is the theme on Feb. 14, the entire month is prime time to sample the offerings of Metro Milwaukee’s great restaurants.

Whether you’re a single, couple or group, the chilly weather makes the drink and dessert menus of local establishments even more enticing. The following suggestions are just a sampling. For complete contact information and more great options, see the KEY Dining listings.

METRO BAR & CAFÉ is located in the heart of downtown. Comfy couches and cocktail tables combine with more traditional seating options. Hot drinks include Caramel Cider and Metro Coffee (Bailey’s Irish Cream, Korbel Brandy and Frangelico). Desserts such as Door County Cherry Crumble Pie and Chocolate Raspberry Mousse are all made on the premises.

In the Historic ThirdWard, theMILWAUKEE ALE HOUSE features the brew pub’s own products in the cuisine, including Stout Chocolate Cake and the Russian Root Beer Float, combining vanilla vodka with homemade root beer and a splash of cream.

Also in “TheWard,” PALMS offers relaxing environs and a menu of warm drinks – try Hot Apple Pie or Cardamom MulledWine. Desserts include creme brulee flavor-of-the-day and a “build your own” truffle sampler plate. Desserts are beautifully plated and garnished with strawberry fans and chopped nuts dusted with cinnamon.

Although BUCA DI BEPPO has built a reputation around its family-sized platters, the bar area is a fun spot to enjoy Caffé Toscano, also known as dessert in a glass. It’s a sophisticated blend of Kahlúa Hazelnut, white crème de cacao, Smirnoff Vanilla and half-and-half. All topped with a swirl of whipped cream and chocolate sauce.

Step into TROCADERO and be swept into an environ inspired by Paris. Chocolate lovers will go for the No-No Mocha, a mocha espresso drink amped up with Godiva Mocha and Frangelico with a dollop of homemade Chocolate Mousse.

At CARINI’S LA CONCA D’ORO on Milwaukee’s upper east side near the UW–Milwaukee campus, you’ll think you’ve hopped a jet and escaped to Italy for a drink or dessert.

TRINITY THREE IRISH PUBS has an authentically decorated interior with three different eating and drinking areas, all with their own unique character. Irish Coffee and Bailey’s Cheesecake are a great dessert combo here.

If dessert for you means crepes, visit CHEZ JACQUES in theWalker’s Point neighborhood just south of downtown. Owner Jacques Chaumet has created a French oasis where different dessert crepes include versions with caramelized apples, banana Nutella, poached pears and vanilla with berries.

CAFE LUNA, 106W. Seeboth, combines two levels of great views of Milwaukee with specialty drinks, espresso drinks and dessert. Owner Megan McCormick’s favorite combines Luna Blend Coffee with Italian vanilla liqueur, vanilla Irish whiskey liqueur and Amaretto.

Heat up a cold night and cure a Cajun craving at BAYOU on Milwaukee’s near north side with a Bayou Hurricane drink, or opt for a winter warmer like the Snowplow. Bourbon Street Bread Pudding will warm a cold February night with thoughts of the Mardi Gras celebration Feb. 24. Fat Tuesday is the biggest night of the year at CRAWDADDY’S on the near west side, where special drinks like French Quarter Candy are featured all evening, along with desserts like Vanilla Bean Cheese Cake.

At POTAWATOMI BINGO CASINO, Bar 360 is located in the heart of the gaming floor and slightly elevated, offering a view of the entire gaming floor. Heat up your night with the sights and sounds of the casino while savoring a signature drink like the Jack Pot.

Just west of Milwaukee, find the THE GROVE in Elm Grove. Anew focus on nutritional “Super Foods” has been incorporated into the drink menu as well. Sip a Natural Green Tea Vodka Hot Toddy or Martini, or warm up with a Snowstorm, combining Godiva Dark Hot Chocolate made with low fat soy milk and mixed with white creme de menthe.

Venture further west toWEISSGERBER’S SEVEN SEAS to enjoy the area’s romantic lake country in Delafield. Located north of I-94 off Hwy. 83 (exit 287).
