galleries - february 2009

Milwaukee’s vibrant gallery scene provides plenty of excitement in February. Find just the piece to put new life into your home or office. New artwork is a sure-fire fix for a case of cabin fever.

Downtown Milwaukee
There is a “critical mass” of galleries in the Historic Third Ward. For example, PICTURE PERFECT GALLERY at 320 E. Buffalo St. is open seven days a week and provides more than 400 works of art from which to choose. VP GALLERY, also at 320 E. Buffalo St., is dedicated to the art of photography and is Wisconsin’s only Master Dealer of The LIFE Picture Collection.

URBAN ACCENTS at 159 N. Broadway specializes in home accents from artists throughout the U.S. “Modern and eclectic” describes the collections. Also find a collection of unique jewelry.

RIVERVIEW ANTIQUE MARKET, 175 S. Water St. just across the Milwaukee River from the Historic Third Ward, is a great place to browse the finds of dozens of Wisconsin’s leading antique dealers.

MORNING GLORY GALLERY inside the lobby of the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, 929 N. Water St., is a great place to browse original fine crafts by Wisconsin artists – jewelry, fiber, ceramics, leather, wood, photography, glass, sculpture and mixed media. Open Noon-6 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and during evening performances in Uihlein Hall.

TORY FOLLIARD GALLERY, 233 N. Milwaukee St., presents Brook Slane’s paintings in an exhibition titled “Let's Go Home.” The exhibit opens with an Artist’s Reception from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7. Another exhibit, Janica Yoder’s “Flower Portraits,” also will run Feb. 7-March 7.

Must-visit metro area finds LANDMARKS GALLERY, 231 N. 76th St., offers a wide variety of art for purchase at all times, including the work of many Wisconsin artists. On Feb. 14, Landmarks will host David J. Wagner, scholar and curator who will sign copies of his book, “American Wildlife Art.” Also in attendance at the book signing from 1-3 p.m. will be wildlife artists Martin R. Murk and Les Didier. 453-1620.

To the north of Milwaukee, Historic Cedarburg also is a center for art.

At Cedar Creek Settlement, LEAP OF FAITH and CEDAR CREEK POTTERY are great stops. Don’t miss these great galleries in a charming setting.

At the corner of Bridge St. and Washington Ave., ALL THAT PIZZAZZ is an American Style preferred gallery committed to promoting “Made in America” products.
