St. Patrick’s Parade March 11 kicks off fun downtownWHILE MARCH weather may be unpredictable in Milwaukee, one thing is sure. St. Patrick’s Day will be heartily celebrated by this city that cherishes all things ethnic. A key part of the celebration is the Shamrock Club of Wisconsin’s 40th Annual St. Patrick’s Parade, set for downtown Milwaukee on Saturday, March 11, at noon. With sponsor Miller Lite, the Shamrock Club and the Westown Association are collaborating on the annual parade. The Milwaukee parade dates back to 1843, making it the sixth oldest in the U.S. This year’s parade will feature over 120 units, including Irish dance groups, pipe and drum corps, and special guests. The parade begins on Wisconsin Ave at Old World 3rd St., moves east to Plankinton, north to Kilbourn, west to Old World 3rd St., north to Juneau, east to Water and south to Highland. Parking is available at the Shops of Grand Avenue structure for only $1 during the parade. A family friendly Shamrock Club Post Parade Party will be held from 1-7 p.m. at the Irish Cultural and Heritage Center, 2133 W. Wisconsin Ave., with four stages of continuous entertainment. In addition, dozens of parties will take place during and after the parade at bars and restaurants along the parade route, such as Fitzgibbon’s Pub at 1127 N. Water St. and Water St. Brewery, 1101 N. Water St., and Brew City BBQ, 1114 N. Water St. Many celebrations on March 17Other spots such as County Clare Irish Inn & Pub, 1234 N. Astor St., and the Milwaukee Ale House, 223 N. Water St., have special plans for St. Patrick’s Day on the official date, Friday, March 17.
