THE LAKE EXPRESS, the first high-speed ferry service across Lake Michigan from Milwaukee to Muskegon, makes the first of its daily runs June 1 from a new terminal at the Port of Milwaukee. The new $18-million vessel, which will carry 250 passengers and 46 cars across the lake in 2 1/2 hours, arrived in Milwaukee May 18. The ferry’s schedule for June, July, August and September calls for departures from Milwaukee at 6:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. every day and return trips from Muskegon at 10:30 a.m., 4:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. A more limited schedule is planned for October-December. The Lake Express, which travels at 40 miles an hour, is the first ship of its kind to operate between two American ports.
