MADE IN MILWAUKEE - JUNE 2004

From shoes to sausages, you’ll find it HERE - MILWAUKEE-BASED COMPANIES provide products and prices visitors will find nowhere else.

Allen-Edmonds Tent Sale

This month from June 10-20, 2004 shoe shoppers couldn’t be in a better location as shoe manufacturer Allen-Edmonds holds its popular tent sale at its Port Washington factory outlet and three other locations in the metro area.

Begun 20 years ago, the Allen-Edmonds’ tent sale traditionally was held near the Fourth of July. “This year,” explains Mark Birmingham, chief executive officer of the maker of premium men’s shoes. “the company decided to change the dates in an effort to avoid a busy traveling holiday and hot muggy weather that can make the tents less comfortable for shoppers. Having the sale earlier in June also gives customers the perfect opportunity to save substantially on great Father’s Day gifts.

The sale offers $25 savings on all Allen-Edmonds first quality shoes and up to $100 savings on selected Allen-Edmonds factory seconds. Savings of up to 50% are available on popular brands like Merrell, Timberland, Franco Sarto, Cole Haan and others.
The tent sale at the corporate headquarters, 201 E. Seven Hills Rd. in Port Washington, just off I-43 north of Milwaukee, will be open from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.

Other sale locations, each open from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, are:

  • In the US Bank parking lot, 11111 N. Port Washington Rd., in Mequon, just north of Allen-Edmonds’ Shoe Bank. This expanded location is just west of I-43 at Mequon Rd.
  • Brookfield at the Shoe Bank, 18900 W. Bluemound Rd.
  • Franklin Center on the south side, S. 76th and W. Rawson Ave.

Allen-Edmonds shoes, known as the preferred shoe of American presidents, are hand-crafted in the U.S. and sold throughout the world. Call 262-235-6000 for additional information or visit www.allenedmonds.com.

Canvasbacks Company Store

Barbeque Sauce

Milwaukee historically has been known for its sausages and sauces, enjoyed at tailgate parties before or after athletic events or at family backyard barbeques.

Among the most popular barbeque sauces are those produced by Saz’s State House, 5539 W. State St. The restaurant and catering firm produces Vidalia onion barbeque sauce, Sassy sauce with jalapeno peppers and Saz’s original sauce. Each fat free and gluten free sauce can be purchased at the popular restaurant or at major supermarkets throughout Southeastern Wisconsin.

Saz also produces and sells mozzarella strips and cheddar cheese curds, pre-cooked ribs, pork and chicken, all sold at major supermarkets. A new addition to the area’s food business comes from Sprecher Brewing Company at 701 W. Glendale Ave., only a short drive north from downtown Milwaukee. Sprecher, Milwaukee’s first microbrewer, first expanded its line of products with root beer and specialty sodas. Now marketed nationally, Sprecher’s root beer recently became the key ingredient in Sprecher barbeque sauce.

The new barbeque sauce, developed by Scott McGlinchey of Heaven City Restaurant in Mukwonago, is available only at Sprecher Brewery. The brewer’s retail area is open from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. If you can’t make it to the brewery, call 964-2739 or visit www.sprecherbrewery.com

Usinger’s uses Old World family recipes to produce a variety of meat products from the ever popular bratwurst to every other kind of sausage one could imagine, hams and other German specialties.
