Summerfest lineup strong
Every day from June 29 - July 9

SUMMERFEST, officially the world’s largest music festival, this year offers one the strongest lineups of popular musicians in years, with chart-topping acts on 11 stages for more than 700 performances from June 29-July 9.

The lineup at the Marcus Amphitheater on the south end of the lakefront festival grounds reads like a “who’s who” in the music world: Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers with Pearl Jam, June 29 & 30; Paul Simon, July 1; Nine Inch Nails with Bauhaus, July 2; Mary J. Blige with Ne-Yo, July 3, and Kenny Chesney on July 4.

Nickelback with Hoobastank and Chevelle appear at the Marcus July 5; String Cheese Incident, Bob Weir & RatDog and Keller Williams, July 6; Steely Dan and Michael McDonald, July 7; Allan Jackson with Carrie Underwood, July 8, and Goo Goo Dolls and Counting Crows on the last day of Summerfest, July 9.

But if you don’t have a ticket to the Marcus, there are plenty of top-flight acts on Summerfest’s other stages. On opening night, for example, other stages throughout the festival grounds feature the BoDeans, REO Speedwagon, Elvis Costello & the Imposters, Common, Keane, Blue Oyster Cult, Terrance Simien and Marcia Ball.

Open from noon until midnight each day, Summerfest also offerschildren’s activities during the daytime, sports exhibitions, a wide variety of food vendors and a popular marketplace.

Gate admission to Summerfest is $15 for adults (over 10) in the evenings after 4 p.m. A new adult ticket for weekdays from noon until 4 p.m. is $8. Tickets for seniors 60 and over are $3, as are tickets for children from 3-10 when accompanied by an adult. Separate tickets required for acts at the Marcus Amphitheater are sold at the Marcus Amphitheater Box Office and through Ticketmaster (414-276-4545) and include Summerfest.
