Surprising Brewers host Giants, Barry Bonds

THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS already are the surprise team of the National League this year, combining outstanding pitching and hitting for the first time in several seasons.

June home series include three games against the Chicago Cubs and three against the San Francisco Giants. During the Giants series, Barry Bonds could be in line to pass Hank Aaron’s record for career home runs.

National Veterans Wheelchair Games

MORE THAN 500 athletes are expected to attend the 27th National Veterans Wheelchair Games June 19-23 at the Midwest Airlines Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave.

The event is the largest annual wheelchair sports event in the world. It is a multi-event sports and rehabilitation program for military veterans who use wheelchairs for sports competition as a result of spinal cord injuries, amputations or certain neurological problems.

IndyCars, NASCAR at Milwaukee Mile 

THE MILWAUKEE Mile, the oldest continously operating motor speedway in the world, offers racing fans both Indy Car and NASCAR action this month.

The track at Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis hosts the IndyCar Series Road Runner 100 at 5:30 p.m. June 2 and the ABC Supply/A.J. Foyt 225 at 3 p.m. June 3.

The Toyota Tundra 200, part of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series is set for 8 p.m. June 22 at the Milwaukee Mile. The AT&T 250, part of NASCAR’s Busch Series, is set to start at 7:30 p.m. June 23.

The Milwaukee Mile, where motorized racing started in 1903 eight years before the first Indianapolis 500, has undergone significant improvements in recent years.The facility now seats nearly 40,000.
