feature article - june 2010 Strawberry abundance in Historic Cedarburg
Strawberry Festival is held 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, June 26 and 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday, June 27. Over 100,000 people visited this delightful and delicious free, family-oriented festival in 2009. Delicacies served up include the “Original” Strawberry Brat, and strawberry versions of shortcake, pie, crepes, slush, and ice cream. Cedar Creek Winery’s Strawberry BlushWine and other awardwinning wines are available for purchase by the glass. Cedar Creek Settlement merchants serve a Sunday Morning Strawberry Pancake Breakfast from 8-11 a.m., with live music. Lively music throughout the fest includes Top Forty, Bluegrass and Rock & Roll. Cedar Creek Settlement events include live bands, food booths, a merchant’s marketplace, and a strawberry cooking demo and tasting, as well as daily strawberry contests, including shortcake eating and the strawberry bubblegum blowing. The 10th Annual Plein Air Painting Competition, held June 17-27, features an exhibition and sale through the weekend, June 25-27, at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, W62 N546Washington Ave. Other arts exhibitions and events add fun to the weekend. Historic Cedarburg is located 20 minutes north of Milwaukee. Take I-43 North, Exit 89, west on Highway C. Turn right atWashington Ave. to Historic District.
