25th Bastille Days fills downtown streets OF ALL OF Milwaukee’s summer festivals, Bastille Days is a true urban street festival. This year, the 25th version July 13-16 again will bring food, drink and non-stop entertainment to the east side of downtown surrounding Cathedral Square.
Highlights of the free festival include: • The M&I Bank Storm the Bastille Run/Walk kicking off the festival at 9 p.m. July 13. Times will not be recorded for the 5K run/2-mile walk, but prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers. • Food and beverage options from some of the area’s best restaurants. New this year will be the sponsoring East Town Association’s own café on Jefferson Street between Wells St. and Kilbourn Ave. • Daily cooking demonstrations by leading chefs, followed by wine experts who will share notes about French wines and conduct tastings. • Roaming “busker” entertainment including performers like Greg Frisbee: The Professional Idiot and the world’s only “Fire-Hands Juggler,” Armenrah the Mime and Don Otto “The Diving Fool,” an internationally acclaimed acrobatic comedian. Free-form street parades will be led daily Thursday-Saturday by Mama Dig Down’s Brass Band. Entertainment is varied and continuous. Headliners include Dotsero, a Denver-based jazz group, at 9 p.m. July 13; swing kings Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at 6 and 9:15 p.m. July 14; reggae masters King Solomon at 4 and 8:45 p.m. July 15, and Hurricane Gumbo, with its Louisiana party music, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. July 16.
