Relive history at  Pioneer Village near Saukville

VISIT PICTURESQUE Ozaukee County Pioneer Village and step into the past.

Located in Hawthorne Hills County Park in Saukville on a hill overlooking the Milwaukee River, the village is a collection of more than 20 log, stone and frame buildings that represent construction methods used in the mid- to late-nineteenth century.

The buildings are furnished with everyday items such as rope beds, spinning wheels, candle molds, wood stoves, china, crockery, trunks, tools and implements that were all used by area pioneers.

In July, special events include the Antique Power Reunion Tractor & Machinery Show, July 21-22 from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and the Old Time Fiddlers’ Contest, July 29 with grounds opening at 11 a.m.

The village is open Saturday and Sunday, noon to 5 p.m., through Oct. 14. (Last tour at 4 p.m.) The address is 4880 Cty. Hwy. I, Saukville.  From Milwaukee take I-43 north, exit at Hwy. 33, west to Cty. I, north on Cty. I. For information, phone 262-377-4510 or 262-377-8432 (tours), or visit www.co.ozaukee.wi.us/OCHS
