VECCHIO BAR & GRILLE
On land and on the river

VECCHIO BAR & GRILLE is an intimate spot in one of the oldest buildings on Old World 3rd St., but on the weekends its customers also cruise on the Milwaukee River.

Vecchio owner Russ Davis partners with Michael Kraus to operate RiverWalk Boat Tours, a growing service that boards passengers in Pere Marquette Park, two blocks south of the restaurant.

Located at 1137 N. Old World 3rd St., Vecchio is known for its intriguing specials, desserts and specialty martinis, often well in front of dining trends.

New this year summer on Vecchio’s list of continental entrees is East Side Dark Barbecued Short Ribs, braised in Eastside Dark beer and served with East Dark cheese tortellini and sautéed spinach. Known for his short ribs, the restaurant’s new chef also has come up with an Eastside Dark BBQ Burger.

The BBQ entrees expand Vecchio’s dinner options, which already include specialty pasta dishes, fish, chicken and pork dishes and even fondue selections.

Vecchio plans soon to expand the number of salad offerings and broaden its range of light, small-plate entrees. The expansion already extends to the drink menu, which now includes more than 15 different Mojitos.

Although Vecchio no longer has a patio to the south of its building, sidewalk seating is available, along with seating looking out the front windows.

Vecchio is open from 4-11 p.m. Mon.-Sat. Sunday brunch from a special menu begins at 10 a.m.

Hearty cruise fare
When serving RiverWalk Boat Tours’ dinner cruises and Sunday brunches, Vecchio provides more traditional fare.

The dinner cruises from 6:30-8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays offer BBQ ribs, chicken boiled shrimp, homemade coleslaw, baked potatoes and homemade desserts.

Sunday brunch cruises from noon-2 p.m. provide muffins, pastries, fruit, a variety of cheeses, egg strada or quiche, baked French toast, bacon, turkey sausage and hash brown caserole.

This year RiverWalk has added a second 49-passenger cruise boat to go with its two 30-passenger vessels and four 10-person rental units. In addition to the weekend dinner and brunch cruises, RiverWalk offers specialty cruises each weekday evening and a very popular hop on-hop off brewery cruise, which Davis has been told is the only one of its kind in the U.S.
