Plenty of new and old activities greet visitors
Variety spices up the lineup at the Miller Lite Main Stage. For the range of ticket options and the headliner schedule, see the KEY Arts & Entertainment listings. The fair also offers 28 free stages of daily entertainment, and street performers, including jugglers and stilt walkers, will stroll the grounds and join in the Daily Parade, which starts up each day at 3 p.m. Wisconsin’s Circus History will come alive during State Fair. Performers from Circus World Museum, located in Baraboo, Wis., roll out “Circus Celebration,” presented by Jewel-Osco and Toyota. “Circus Celebration” emphasizes Wisconsin’s vast circus heritage and Wisconsin State Fair’s own circus history. Six performances each day feature extraordinary circus artists and breathtaking animal acts. The free performances run at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. Interactive areas help families join in the magic. The museum’s ornate, hand-carved wagons also will be on display. GT AIRSHOW’s Bicycle Stunt Team performs ramp-to-ramp back flips and other daring tricks. Daredevils can climb the rock wall, be shot up 280 feet into the air by our Monster Energy Ejection Seat or (for a change of pace) create a cuddly teddy at the Build-A-Bear Workshop®. The fair’s famous racing pigs compete five times a day running and swimming for a cookie. In the air-conditioned 200,000 square-foot Expo Center, shop-a-holics can browse through more than 600 vendors. Potawatomi Bingo Casino conducts sessions near the south end of the Expo and visitors exercise at the Expo Energy Zone by climbing the indoor rock wall. At the Pettit Center’s Cool Zone, there are hot activities on the ice. Skate with U.S. Olympians, hit the ice as a human hockey puck, or test your skill at cream puff curling. Speaking of cream puffs – what would the Wisconsin State Fair be without the state’s famous treat? Other fair favorites include roasted corn, baked potatoes, pork chop sandwiches or over 30 foods-on-a-stick.
A fair favorite is visiting the fair’s animals. A state-of-the-art, double-deck Livestock Barn, is home to horses, the Foremost Farms USA contemporary milking parlor and the Budweiser Clydesdales. There’s a new Birthing Barn, where baby animals are on view. Stop by the Coliseum for continual livestock judging and find out what it takes to be a blue ribbon champion. Prizes also are awarded to cakes, cookies, pies, canned goods, quilts, floral arrangements and dairy products. General admission is $8 for adults, $3 for youth (ages 7 to 11), $6 for fairgoers with disabilities and seniors(60 and older). Children 6 and under are free.
