Mexican Fiesta fills lakefront with authentic sights, sounds
A major highlight every year is the authentic food. Other features include the jalapeño eating contest and fireworks at 10 pm. Friday. Many musical acts, including the rousing Mariachi bands, produce foot-stomping rhythms and an elaborate swirl of traditional dancers. Handmade treasures are among the items for sale in the marketplace. Cultural displays help visitors learn about the customs and heritage of Mexico and other Latin American countries. There is a Liturgy for Peace and Justice at 10 a.m. Sunday. Admission is $12. Hours are 11 a.m.-11:30 p.m. Friday, noon-11:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information, phone 383-7066 or visit www.mexicanfiesta.org. |
