Surprising Brewers drawing big crowds at Miller Park

THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS, with a new look that extends from the field to the owner’s box, have been extremely competitive at home and away this season. This month 14 home games are scheduled, including an important series with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Home for the Brewers is Miller Park, just west of the downtown area. The park’s retractable dome allows games to be played even in the unpredictable days of early summer. Tickets may be purchased through www.milwaukeebrewers.com or at the box office.

MOTOR SPORTS

SOUTHEASTERN Wisconsin has two major tracks – the Milwaukee Mile at Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis and Road America in Elkhart Lake north of Milwaukee.

The Milwaukee Mile this month hosts the NASCAR Elite Weekend Aug. 26-28, culminating in the 200-lap Governor’s Cup Aug. 28. For details and tickets on Friday and Saturday practice sessions and for other races and track, visit www.milwaukeemile.com.

Road America’s Ferrari Challenge Aug. 5-7 brings  beautiful modern Ferraris together with museum-quality cars in the Shell Historic Challenge. On Aug. 18-21 the Chicago Tribune’s Road America 500, part of the American Le Mans Series, features some of the fastest snd most beautiful race cars running today. Also in August, the second annual Tour de Road America Bicycle Event is set for Aug. 20, offering a chance to ride your bicycle on the track with celebrities and race car drivers to benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation. To register for this special event, call 1-800-365-7223.

World’s best streetballers
in Milwaukee Aug. 4

NOW IN ITS sixth year as the nation’s premiere playground basketball event, the AND 1 Mix Tape® Tour presented by Mountain Dew hits the U.S. Cellular Arena  Aug. 4. The event begins with an open run at 4 p.m. and game time of 7:30 p.m.

The AND 1 Mix Tape Tour will hit 30 cities this summer. In each city the tour hosts an Open Run, expo area and game showcasing the world’s best streetballers.

The players have played basketball on all levels, from college to professional, including domestic and international leagues. From a 2003 NCAA Slam Dunk Contest Finalist (Helicopter) to a former member of the Orlando Magic (Prime), the AND 1 Mix Tape Players have been a force at all levels of the game.

The AND 1 Mix Tape Players take on the best basketball talent each city can bring, with local ballers vying for a spot on the roster and an endorsement deal with AND 1.

AND 1’s series of basketball videos and DVDs known as the ‘AND 1 Mix Tapes’ have attained cult status among hard-core ball players. In only six years, the AND 1 Mix Tape Tour has reached over 675,000 basketball fans and elevated the Mix Tape Tour players to international icons.

PROFESSIONAL SOCCER

MILWAUKEE WAVE UNITED, which normally plays in the professional summer A-League, this year is playing without a league tie because of the length of the season of the parent Milwaukee Wave, champion of the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Wave United, which plays all its home games at Uihlein Soccer Park, 7101 W. Good Hope Rd., plays two games in August: Aug. 6 versus  the St. Louis Steamers and Aug. 13 versus the Chicago Storm. Both games are at 7 p.m. The home season ends Sept. 10 against the Chicago Fire of Major League Soccer.
