Nils, Marsalis star August 4 & 5
at Third Ward Summer Sizzle

Smooth jazz chart-topper Nils and An Evening with Delfeayo Marsalis will heat up the M & I Bank Main Stage at the 8th Annual Historic Third Ward Jazz Festival: Summer Sizzle, which runs 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Aug. 4-5, in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward.

The event, which features two stages of continuous jazz, will take place in the area’s 100 and 200 blocks of N. Broadway and adjacent streets: E. Buffalo, E. Chicago and E. Menomonee. Admission is free.

Smooth jazz guitarist Nils will headline the M&I Bank Main Stage in Catalano Square at 9 p.m. on Aug. 4.  He earned the number one “Song of the Year 2005” ranking on Radio & Records’ “Smooth Jazz” chart with the single “Pacific Coast Highway,” the title track from his CD. “Summer Nights,” his second single, hit the “Top 5” on 2006 “Smooth Jazz” charts.

An Evening with Delfeayo Marsalis at 9 p.m., Aug. 5, is the star attraction on the M&I Bank Main Stage. This marks the first Milwaukee appearance of trombonist Marsalis with his quintet. He is part of the renowned musical Marsalis family. On stage, Delfeayo sends out searing jazz, easy blues, and the coolest of sinful ballads.

Eighteen regional and local jazz artists complete the musical lineup with a variety of styles: traditional, smooth, Latin, swing, fusion, Dixieland and more.

“Our jazz festival is a great time for people to visit the Historic Third Ward and enjoy the ambiance of the neighborhood and all it has to offer–restaurants, art galleries, specialty shops and more,” said Nancy O’Keefe, executive director of the Historic Third Ward Association, which presents the event.

Corporate and media sponsors include Metro Market, M&I Bank, American Family Insurance, Land Rover Glendale/Waukesha, WJZI Smooth Jazz 93.3, Miller Brands, Carl Buddig/Old Wisconsin, Saz’s, Old Orchard and Kellogg’s.

Among other festival highlights include ethnic and American food and a marketplace with apparel, jewelry, art, imports, one-of-a-kind gifts and specialty items.
