Weissgerbers's Seven Seas

THERE is more to Weissgerber’s Seven Seas than meets the eye, and that’s saying a lot for one of the Milwaukee area’s best-known lakeside restaurants.

restaurantNestled in the scenic hills of the Kettle Moraine on the east shore of Lake Nagawicka, Seven Seas is the place to go for a scenic dining experience and much more. Wine Spectator magazine’s 2006 and 2007 Best Award of Excellence is just one of the strong reviews collected by this popular spot.

Since 1905, restaurants and resorts have operated on this site just 20 miles west of Milwaukee. The Weissgerber family acquired the property in 1981 and quickly built a reputation for quality and service.

Known for its fine seafood, prime steaks and continental specialties, Seven Seas invites diners to enjoy traditional favorites and unique creations. Every dining room features fabulous lake views.

During the summer, outdoor decks, patios, gazebos and dramatic landscaping make every visit here a mini-vacation. Diners linger over a cocktail as they watch sailboats passing by and boaters pull up to the restaurant’s piers.

In addition to breathtaking scenery, Seven Seas features special casual dining options during the warm weather months.

Back this year by customer demand is the Door County style fish boil. Served every Wednesday on Seven Seas’ covered Lakeside Terrace, the dramatic “boil over” takes place at 6:30 p.m., followed by dining at the buffet until 8 p.m.

On Fridays, a fish and chicken buffet is served from 5:30-8:30 p.m., also on the covered Lakeside Terrace.

Live entertainment in the Sunset Lounge spices up the weekends at Seven Seas. At the piano bar on Friday and Saturday, Paul Patterson will play requests for diners to dance or just relax. Acasual menu for the lounge features tempting appetizers, burgers, sandwiches and wraps, salads and gourmet pizzas. There’s even a tapas menu for fun sampling.

While the restaurant’s setting is beautiful, it’s the cuisine served here and the award-winning wine list that draw guests back to Seven Seas.

Appetizer favorites include Paradise Ceviche, seafood marinated in lime and cilantro served with crisp tostadas. Linda’s Apple Roquefort Salad (named for owner Linda Weissgerber) combines baby greens, tart apples, honey walnuts, blue cheese and champagne vinaigrette.

If gazing at the lake puts you in the mood for seafood, try the Walleye Veronique. This Wisconsin favorite is sauteed with grapes, almonds and a white wine Buerre blanc, then served on tri-colored fettuccine. Great steaks, ribs and chops tantalize the meat lover. Examples are New Zealand rack of lamb and a cider-brined White Farms pork chop served with bacon and tropical relish. Ethnic favorites include Wiener Schnitzel served with Yukon mashed potatoes. Finish your meal with one of Seven Seas’ delectable desserts.

Because of the romantic setting this is a favorite spot for weddings, but there are rooms that cater to groups of all sizes for business meetings and parties. The Grand Ballroom can accommodate 300.

Weissgerbers is open 5-10 p.m. Monday and Wednesday through Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. for Sunday Brunch and 4-9 p.m. for dinner on Sunday. Closed Tuesday. The restaurant is located at 1807 Nagawicka Rd., Delafield, Wis. Phone 262-367-3903 for directions and reservations. The web site is www.weissgerbers.com.
