Brewers making a run, drawing large crowds

THE MILWAUKEE BREWERS are at home for only 10 games this month, but the crowds are certain to be large and loud.

During the first half of the season, the Brewers were among the hottest teams in baseball. Adding to the enthusiasm was the midseason addition of pitcher C.C. Sabathia from the Cleveland Indians, giving the Brewers one of the best pitching rotations in baseball.

Attendance at Miller Park, just five miles west of downtown Milwaukee, surpassed 1 million early June and is well on the way to topping the 2.8 million mark set in 2007.

Thanks to a retractable roof, there are no rainouts at Miller Park, recognized as one of the most outstanding venues for baseball in the country. For tickets and team updates, visit www.brewers.com.

NFL’s St. Louis Rams training at Concordia in Mequon

FOOTBALL fans in the Milwaukee area will get a chance to see an NFL team prepare for the 2008-2009 season, but the colors will not be the Packers’ green and gold.

The St. Louis Rams will prepare for the season this year at Concordia University in Mequon, just north of Milwaukee. It will be the team’s first training camp outside of St. Louis since the team trained at Western Ilinois University from 1996-2004.

There will be no charge to attend Rams practice sessions, but there will be a $5 parking fee. Cameras and small coolers are permitted, but video and alcohol are prohibited.

Training camp begins July 26-31. August sessions that are open to the public:

Aug. 1 – 8:45-10:45 a.m., 4-5:30 p.m.
Aug. 2 – (scrimmage) 10:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
Aug. 5 – 9:40 - 11:40 a.m.
Aug. 11 – 3:50-5:30 p.m.
Aug. 12 – 8:45-10:15 a.m., 4-5:30 p.m.
Aug. 13 – 3:50-5:30 p.m.
Aug. 14 – 10:15-11:45 a.m.

Weather and field conditions are evaluated daily, so all dates and times are subject to change.

Concordia, located along Lake Michigan, features recently upgraded athletic facilities that include artificial ProGrass turf at the school’s Century Stadium and at adjacent playing fields. To reach Concordia, take I-43 to Mequon Road, turn east to Lake Shore Dr. and go north on Lake Shore to Concordia, 12800 N. Lake Shore Dr.

For up-to-date information about the training camp, call the Training Camp Hotline at 314-516-8852 or visit the Rams Website at www.stlouisrams.com.
