THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s international award-winning musical, returns to the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, 929 N. Water St., Aug. 5-30. The production, which is the longest-running show ever on Broadway, is presented here by M&I Bank Broadway Across America - Milwaukee. With worldwide grosses estimated at over $5 billion, The Phantom of the Opera is the most successful entertainment venture of the 20th century, surpassing such blockbuster films as Titanic, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park and Star Wars. The winner of seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The Phantom has been seen by over 80 million people in 124 cities in 25 countries. On Jan. 9, 2006, show surpassed Cats’ record-holding run of 7,485 performances on Broadway. The show also celebrated an unprecedented milestone on Jan. 26, 2008, when it reached its twentieth anniversary on Broadway. At the Marcus Center, Phantom of the Opera performances are 7:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 8 p.m. Friday, 1 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 1 and 6:30 p.m. Sunday.
