Downtown Housing Open House & Expo
showcases more than 30 developments

THE DRAMATIC INCREASE in the number of new downtown housing units makes it only natural that the 7th annual Downtown Open House & Housing Expo is expanding to two days.

Limited previously to one day, the Expo presented by the Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors and Milwaukee Downtown Business Improvement District 21 will be held from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 15, and Sept. 16.

Most of the activity will continue to be on Saturday, Sept. 15, when exhibits in Pere Marquette Park on the Milwaukee River (between W. State St. and W. Kilbourn Ave.) will highlight new downtown condominium and apartment projects.

Visitors on Saturday also can take a free shuttle bus from the park to more than 30 developments in the Historic Third Ward, Fifth Ward, Brewer’s Hill and the downtown area. On Sunday, the developments will continue to be open for inspection, but there will be no shuttle. For a complete list of the properties, visit visit the Greater Milwaukee Association of Realtors' website at www.gmar.com.

New this year at Pere Marquette Park on Saturday will be a Downtown Lifestyle Marketplace presented by the Mandel Group to expose visitors to downtown amenities. In the adjacent Milwaukee County Historical Society from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, the Coldwell Banker City Living Forum will feature a presentation by former Milwaukee mayor John Norquist, now executive director of the Congress for New Urbanism. Since seating is limited, visitors are encouraged to make reservations by calling 414-277-9500.

In addition to Saturday’s Housing Expo, Pere Marquette Park also will be at the center of the annual Milwaukee River Challenge, which brings university and club crew teams to compete on the Milwaukee River.
