Milwaukee International Film Festival
to screen more than 100 films Oct. 19-29

MORE THAN 100 films from around the globe, including the best from Midwest filmmakers, will be featured in the fourth annual Milwaukee International Film Festival Oct. 19 through Oct. 29.

Films will be screened Oct. 19 and 29 at the Landmark Oriental Theatre, 2230 N. Farwell Ave.; Oct. 20 and 29 at the Landmark Downer Theatre, 2589 N. Downer Ave., and Times Cinema,  5906 W. Vliet St.; and Oct. 27 and 29 at the Milwaukee Art Museum, 700 N. Art Museum Dr., and Discovery World, 500 N. Harbor Dr. just south of the Art Museum.

Special screenings include:

  • The Queen from the United Kingdom, 7 p.m. Oct. 19 at the Oriental. Starring Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II, this is an intimate and often humorous portrait of the British royal family in the crisis immediately following the death of Princess Diana.

  • Perhaps Love, a lavish movie-within-a-movie musical from Hong Kong, 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at the Oriental.

  • Black Gold, a spotlight presentation from the United Kingdom at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 at the Oriental and 5 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Oriental. This spotlight presentation is an exploration of the $80-billion-dollar global coffee industry.

  • Keeping Mum, a British comedy centering on the well-meaning vicar (Rowan Atkinson) of the parish of Little Wallop. 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Oriental Theatre.

The festival also will include a tribute to American screenwriter and director Harold Ramis, who will personally present his classic comedy Groundhog Day at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 at the Oriental.

Tickets for screenings and other special events at the festival may be purchased from 4-8:30 p.m. Mon.-Thurs. and noon-8:30 p.m. Friday at the Oriental Theatre or by phone at 414-225-9761 from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
