Sprecher
top small brewer
SPRECHER
BREWERY, Milwaukee’s original microbrewery, was named
the 2004 Small Brewing Company of the Year at this year’s Great
American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado.
Sprecher,
which will mark its 20th anniversary in 2005, was judged best among
102 competitors.
In addition, the company’s brewmaster,
Craig Burge, was named small company brewmaster of the year.
Two
Sprecher brands won gold medals: Oktoberfest was judged the best
German-Style/Oktoberfest brew out of 52 entries and Sprecher’s
Scotch Ale was judged best in the Strong Scotch Ale category where
23 brands were entered. The Beer Festival awards gold medals only
to entries
that judges determine to be “world-class beer” that accurately
exemplifies specified styles. Sprecher also won a bronze medal for
its Mai Bock.
Sprecher
Brewery is located at 701 W. Glendale Ave. in Glendale, just west of
I-43. The brewery has a retail store, an
indoor beer
garden
and rathskellar in addition to its production facility. Tours are
