‘Christmas in the Ward’ Nov. 30 & Dec. 1
THE 19TH ANNUAL Christmas in the Ward will be held 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30 and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1. While the fun is centered at Catalano Square (N. Broadway and E. Menomonee St.), the holiday spirit will enliven all of the Historic Third Ward.
Friday's opening event includes a Holiday Concert & Tree Lighting Ceremony that begins at 5 p.m., with the actual tree-lighting at 5:30 p.m. Santa's live reindeer will be part of the celebration from 5-7 p.m. Horse-drawn carriage rides, costumed characters and musical performers add to the holiday cheer from 5-8 p.m. Kids can visit Santa in Jolly's Outdoor Gingerbread House and shop at Jolly's Secret Gift Shop, 5:45-8:30 p.m. In keeping with Christmas in the Ward tradition, a silent auction, cookie sale and holiday raffle will be held.
FIREWORKS bring the excitement to a climax at 6 p.m.!
Both days, shoppers can take advantage of the Frosty Five shopping extravaganza. Those spending $20 or more at any participating retailer receive a Frosty Five gift certificate ($5 value). Frosty Fives can be redeemed until Dec. 24 at any participating retailer. Restaurants not included. (See the brochure, available from merchants, for details).
On Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., the silent auction, cookie sale and holiday raffle continue. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be available from 12-3 p.m. From 12-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., kids can visit Santa in the Outdoor Gingerbread House and shop in Jolly's Secret Gift Shop to buy gifts for Mom and Dad. At 4 p.m., the silent auction and raffle winners will be announced. Proceeds from the silent auction, cookie sale and photos with Santa benefit Toys for Tots.
Christmas in the Ward is a free event. Parking is free in the Third Ward structures at 212 N. Milwaukee St. and 225 E. Chicago St. from 4-10 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30, and from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1.
The following weekend, kids can visit Santa in Jolly's Gingerbread House and browse Jolly's Secret Gift Shop from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7, and Saturday,
Dec. 8.
