Bucks face Bulls, Mavericks in first month of season

Home games this month: Milwaukee Wave Soccer THE Milwaukee Wave, always a contender in the Major Indoor Soccer League, open a new season this month with two fast-paced games. The Wave plays its home games at the U.S. Cellular Arena, 400 W. Kilbourn Ave. Tickets are available at the arena box office or www.milwaukeewave.com. Early-season games: Nov. 3 vs. the New Jersey Ironmen, 5 p.m. College basketball season opens at Marquette, UWM MEN’S AND WOMEN’S basketball teams at Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) open their seasons this month, hoping to repeat the success experienced in recent years. Home games for Marquette men are played at the Bradley Center, 1001 N. 4th St., while women call the Al McGuire Center their home court. UWM men play home games at the U.S. Cellular Arena, just north of the Bradley Center at 400 W. Kilbourn Ave., while the women play at the Klotsche Center on campus. Marquette men UWM men Marquette women UWM women First Fresh Coast Classic Nov. 23-24 at Midwest Center THE FIRST FRESH COAST Basketball Classic, featuring four of the nation’s Historically Black Colleges, is set to be played here on Thanksgiving weekend in a venue normally associated with conventions and trade show. The Midwest Airlines Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave., will host teams from Dillard University in Louisiana, Langston University in Oklahoma, Central State University in Ohio and Lane College in Tennessee. Activities will begin at 8 a.m.-11 a.m. Nov. 23 with a College Recruitment Fair, followed by a coaches clinic at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center at 11 a.m. Two of the teams participating in the new event are natives of Milwaukee. First-round games in the tournament are set for 1 and 5 p.m. Nov. 23 in exhibit areas A & B of the convention center. The college recruitment fair will continue at 8 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24, followed by the consolation game at 1 p.m. and the championship game at 3 p.m. The Fresh Coast Classic is patterned after similar sports events in other cities involving teams from Historical Black Colleges. Major sponsors for the new event include Harley-Davidson, Northwestern Mutual, The Mandel Company, Manpower, the Rivianna Development Group, M&I Marshall & Ilsley Corp., the Milwaukee Bucks, Miller Compressing Company, Legacy Bank and Community Finance Corp. and American Family Insurance Group.
