Metro Bar & Cafe

STEP INSIDE THE Metro Bar & Café, and discover a dining experience that is as welcoming as it is stylish.

The hotel’s interior was inspired by the streamlined design of the building’s art moderne, 1937 limestone exterior. A tranquil ambiance was achieved through the use of smooth curves and ovals, natural fibers, warm colors, and recessed lighting.

Sink into the comfortable couch seating that is an option in both the bar and café, and your Metro experience begins. That welcome is affirmed by the Metro’s staff, providing the knowledgeable yet personal service that the term “boutique” implies. General Manager Denise Bjerke places a high priority on service, and describes Metro’s wait staff as “friendly and accommodating.”

Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week, Metro also has become a favorite “after-five” meeting place. Special themes add to the fun Monday through Friday. For example, Thursday features beer, wine and martini specials, plus complimentary hors d’oeuvres. Friday, all martinis on the Metro’s extensive martini menu are $5.

Many have discovered that Metro is a great place to greet the day, whether that means a business breakfast or a solitary session with a cup of coffee served on the restaurant’s lovely china. Lunchtime finds business people and leisure travelers alike enjoying gourmet pizzas, sandwiches, salads and noon-time specials.
Accustomed to travelers visiting from many different time zones, the Metro Café staff welcomes guests throughout the day.

The dinner menu reflects the attention to detail that is a cornerstone. Maryland Crab Cakes, roasted asparagus spears wrapped in phyllo dough with goat cheese and bruschetta made with baked sourdough batard are among the appetizer choices.

Executive Chef Ron Edwards uses the freshest ingredients available to fashion his entrée menu. Favorites include sea bass pan-seared and hazelnut-crusted with a light Kahula cream sauce. Steak lovers can choose from filet mignon, rib-eye or New York strip cuts. This fall Metro became one of only two restaurants in the city serving only 100% Certified Angus Beef with superior marbling that makes cuts the tastiest, juiciest and most tender available.

Chef Edwards’ daily specials truly reveal his creativity. Often focusing on fish or seafood, these offerings vary depending on the best from the world’s oceans and lakes. For example, if you are lucky enough to visit Metro on Saturday evening, Hawaiian Seafood Night will be in full swing. Metro serves the best the Honolulu Fish Company has to offer. Fish are caught and shipped the same day to Milwaukee. Then, the Metro kitchen does a creative take on preparing fish such as Hapu upu u, Opakapaka, Hebi, and Moncong.

From 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, order from the Metro’s expansive brunch menu. Start with three different versions of Eggs Bendict, four different crepes or three versions of beignets. Add entrees such as Asian Mah-mahi or Chicken Empanada, and the decision-making gets ever harder.

For those dropping in after a Bucks game, concert, or theater performance, Metro’s incredible dessert menu beckons. All desserts, from the crème brulee to the Key Lime pie, are made on the premises.

During warm weather months, Metro’s outdoor dining is a popular option. Another Hotel Metro stress-fighter is the valet parking. And the entire facility is WiFi connected. Your reservations or questions are welcomed at 272-1937, or visit www.hotelmetro.com.
