‘Cool’ courses near the lake to heat up your game

By Jerry Slaske
KeyMilwaukee.com Golf Editor

SEVERAL months ago in the spring, I cautioned against playing courses in Southeastern Wisconsin too close to Lake Michigan. Prevailing winds at that time usually are off the lake and temperatures can be 10-15 degrees cooler than they are farther inland.

At this time of the year with high temperatures and even higher humidity, Mother Nature’s air conditioner is a godsend. Easterly winds and sometimes just being close to the lake bring welcome relief. Playing within 5-7 miles of Lake Michigan is the place to be during the dog days of summer. Obviously, there’s no guarantee that it will be cooler at these courses, but at least there’s a better chance of that happening.

Following are all courses (with slope or degree of difficulty) that could bring you relief – perhaps, also to your game.
