Nativity Scene (Crèche)

Milwaukee Art Museum

Experience the Milwaukee Art Museum's recently conserved eighteenth-century crèche, which has not been on view since 2013. These delicate sculptures were part of a tradition in Naples, Italy, in which wealthy families attempted to outdo each other with huge, theatrical installations centered around the nativity story.

Milwaukee Public Museum

The holiday decorations at the Streets of Old Milwaukee remain through Jan. 22. The Streets of Old Milwaukee is a walk-through diorama, transporting the visitor back to a fall evening in Milwaukee at the turn of the 19th century.

Next to the Streets exhibit, the European Village recreates homes and shops from many countries, circa 1875-1925, and holiday decorations add a special touch and highlight the diverse traditions represented.

Dec. 7-8 costumed enactors and interpreters bring to life European holiday practices of the past with holiday artifacts not usually on display, talk with costumed interpreters about holiday traditions and participate in hands-on activities.
